Rencontre avec une céramiste passionnée

What could be better than an interview with Olivia, to learn valuable advice and discover the work of a passionate ceramicist?

Meeting with Olivia, Ceramicist at Céramicafé Geneviève

In 2003, Olivia discovered ceramics when she entered a workshop in Montmartre, in the 18th arrondissement. At that time, the practice was not as widespread as it is today, and her friends made fun of her and her terracotta "bowls". There, she discovered the gestures, the sensation of contact with the clay, the firing, the movement of the wheel... For her, it was a real no-brainer!

After a few years in the e-commerce sector, Olivia decided to retrain and started training as a ceramist. After obtaining her CAP in throwing in 2018, she began producing her own pieces!

Olivia has always wanted to pass on and teach her know-how. This is how her path crossed that of the Céramicafé Geneviève. As a great fan of ceramic decoration and the atmosphere of the workshops, Olivia offers to put her experience to good use by leading the first weekly throwing classes, then the introductory courses on weekends in the Céramicafé Geneviève in the 14th arrondissement.

Today, in parallel with "everyday" ceramics, Olivia likes to use clay for its plastic and resilient properties. She uses it during art therapy, sensory awakening and meditation workshops to dive into the heart of the material and make the connection with our inner world and our deep mechanisms.

Olivia's main source of inspiration?

It resides in the line and the grammar of forms. She appreciates the fact of “play” by letting yourself be carried away by the material and chance.

A creative process in two approaches

When she starts producing pieces for clients, Olivia first makes a sketch and a technical drawing. Once these elements are validated, she refines the prototype on the potter's wheel in real time.

In everyday life, Olivia prefers to let herself be guided by her inspirations and the feeling of the present moment. She has fun and tests the material to its limits and its last springs...

Olivia loves making cups and tumblers above all. Her work shows her attraction to simplicity and minimalism!

Olivia's ceramic tips

For Olivia, it is important to emphasize the need to feel, listen and have fun with the earth... And above all, take your time!
