Step by step steps
Here we go! Grab your clay, your tools and your 10 fingers. This kit contains everything you need to make your own self-hardening clay flower pot.
1 Shape your flower pot
Start by taking 2/3 of your clay loaf to form your pot. Form a ball by tapping the ball of clay between your hands. It should be as round and smooth as possible.
2 Dig a hole in your ball of earth
To do this, push your thumb inside. Your finger should dig about halfway down the ball. Pinch the soil between your thumb (inside the pot) and your other fingers (outside the pot). Start at the bottom of your coin, pinching and then turning your ball little by little. Repeat the operation by raising your hand until you pinch the whole ball!
3 Refine the walls of your pot
Similarly, thin out the walls, making sure they are the same thickness across the entire pot and as straight as possible.
Then, using a knife, create a hole in the bottom of your flower pot, to allow water to drain when you water your plant.
4 Shape your cup
With the remaining 1/3 of clay, form a ball as in the previous step, then spread it evenly, to form a disk larger than the base of your pot and about 1cm thick. Raise the edges of this disk using a knife or a modeling tool, to create the edges of your cup.
Let your creations air dry for 24 to 48 hours before moving on to the next step.
5 Decorate your pieces once your creation is dry.
Let your creativity speak. Once your creations are finalized, you can varnish your pot to make it shiny and move on to the planting stage,
6 Sow, water and admire
Ready to become a real budding gardener?!
First, place 4 soil pellets in a bowl and immerse them in water, to make them swell about 3 times their initial size. Once this step is done, remove the film that covers the soil. This will allow you to crumble it to create a layer of damp soil, quite thick at the bottom of your pot (about 3 cm). Then your seeds. You can observe the seeds germinating after a week.
