Make your own pot or vase in mixed clay by watching the tutorial below!
Step by step steps:
1. Start by taking two handfuls of clays of different colors. We recommend a white clay and a colored clay. Form two balls by tapping the clay between your hands. They should be as round and smooth as possible.
2. Form two sausages of earth by first pressing the balls to lengthen them, then rolling them under your fingers.
3. Make a twist with your two sausages of colored earth. Note that the more you twist, the more you mix your colors.
4. Once your twist is done, reform a ball of clay. If the clay is too dry you can add a little water to your fingers to re-moisten it.
5. Cut your ball in half. The easiest way to cut it is to twist the ball, your right hand turning clockwise, and your left hand counterclockwise. Then glue them together by turning them over.
6. Reform a ball one last time with your two balls of earth. The more you work your ball by tapping it and manipulating it, the more the colors will mix. Stop at the right moment!
7. Spread your ball of mixed earth on a wooden board, using a rolling pin or a empty bottle. Then cut out a rectangle long enough to be closed on itself, and a circle to serve as a base for your pot.
8. Close your rectangle on itself to make a cylinder. To stick the two edges together, add a little water and press them together, making one side of soil protrude over the other. With your wet finger, spread the upper side over the lower side, stretching and smoothing the soil. Repeat the operation with the base! If it is too big for your cylinder, cut it with a knife. If it is too small, flatten it a little more with a rolling pin, it will gain in size!
9. Once the body of your pot is finished, you can add elements, such as handles. To glue, moisten the soil, press, then make a thin sausage of soil to surround the glued part. Melt the sausage with your finger, so that it is no longer visible.
And there you have it! Let your self-hardening clay vase dry for 24 hours. For gentle drying, don't hesitate to place them under plastic (cling film or plastic bag). You can then varnish or enamel your vase!
